Ненецкий автономный округ — это субъект Российской Федерации. Огромная территория региона почти полностью расположена за Полярным кругом. Последний снег здесь тает в конце июля, а зима в среднем длится 220–240 дней.
В 1929 году - был образован Ненецкий округ Северного края постановлением Президиума ВЦИК на основе волеизъявления Ненецкого народа.
Город Нарьян-Мар — административный центр региона. От Нарьян-Мара до Москвы 1 542 километра. Город находится за Северным полярным кругом, расположен в низовьях реки Печоры, в 110 км от Баренцева моря.
Территория округа составляет 176,7 тысяч квадратных километров. Округ граничит с Ямало-Ненецким автономным округом (это два разных субъекта Российской Федерации), Республикой Коми и Мезенским районом Архангельской области, с севера граница проходит по побережью Белого моря, Баренцева моря и Карского моря.
Нарьян-Мар - административный центр и единственный город на территории округа. Так же в округе находятся 1 поселок городского типа и 42 сельских населённых пункта.
Нарьян-Мар и другие поселения округа не связанны с "большой землей" автомобильными или железными дорогами, их нет. Добраться до округа летом можно только на самолете или по реке на барже. Зимой - это зимняя дорога, которая получается в результате замерзания снега и льда.
Коренное население округа — это Ненцы, их всего около 7 тысяч человек из 43 тысяч общего населения Ненецкого автономного округа.
Численность оленей в округе составляет 168 тысяч голов. Олень для ненца — это центр жизни. Еду, одежду, жилище, транспорт все обеспечивает это удивительное животное.
Все Ненцы с древних времён живут в Чуме. (Чум (англ. Chum) - переносное жилище в виде шатра конической формы, крытого шкурами, корой, войлоком). Для них это центр всей жизни семьи, который воспринимается как целый мир со своими законами и правилами.
Одним из чудес Ненецкой тундры является феномен известный как "белые ночи". Летом солнце не заходит за горизонт 24 часа в сутки. Этот период длиться с 29 мая по 15 июля. Вы когда–нибудь видели луну и солнце на небе одновременно? В Ненецком округе возможны такие чудеса!

The Nenets Autonomous Okrug is a constituent entity of the Russian Federation. The vast territory of the region is entirely located beyond the Arctic Circle. The last snow melts in late July, and the winter lasts 220-240 days on average.
The Nenets Autonomous Okrug was formed in 1929 by the decision of the Presidium of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee on the basis of the will of the Nenets people. The territory of the district is 176.7 thousand square kilometers. It borders by the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District (these are two different subjects of the Russian Federation), the Republic of Komi and Mezensky District of the Arkhangelsk Region.
Naryan-Mar is the administrative center of the region. The distance from Naryan-Mar to Moscow is 1542 kilometers. The city is located beyond the Artic circle in the lower reaches of the Pechors River 110 km From the Barents Sea.
From the north the district is washed by the White Sea, the Barents Sea and the Karskoye Sea. Naryan-Mar is the administrative center and the only city on the territory of the district. There are 1 urban settlement and 42 rural settlements in the district. Naryan-Mar and other settlements of the district are not connected with the "big earth" by road or railways.
In summer you can get to the county only by plane or by river on a barge or using special winter road during winter time. The Nenets people are indigenous population of the district. There are only 7 thousand of them out of 43 thousand of total population of the Nenets Autonomous Area.
There is 168 thousand reindeer stock in the district. A reindeer husbandry is the center of life for the Nenets. Food, clothing, housing, transportation. From the ancient times all the Nenets have lived in Chum. (Chum is a portable dwelling forming a conical tent it is covered with skins, bark, felt). It was the center of the whole life of the family, which was perceived as a whole world with its own laws and rules.
One of the wonders of the Nenets tundra is the phenomenon known as "white nights". In summer the sun does not go beyond the horizon 24 hours a day. This period lasts from May 29 to July 15.
